WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University men's basketball team used a strong first half and cruised to a 66-56 win over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast 10 Conference action, Tuesday evening inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was all Assumption in the early portion of the NE10 contest, as the Greyhounds raced out to a 13-3 lead. Southern Connecticut would trim the young deficit down to five points (19-14), but the Hounds closed out the first half on a 15-9 run, with
Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton and
Luke Michalski pouring in five over the run, to head into the intermission up 34-23.
The Owls opened the second half with a slight 11-7 run, but it was quickly extinguished, as the Hounds answered with a 12-0 run with five different players finding the bottom of the basket to go back in front by 19 (53-34). SCSU attempted a comeback over the final 12:19 of regulation, which included 11 points by Malik Banks, but they could not cut the deficit down to single digits. Assumption would walk away with a 66-56 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lenny Tangishaka recorded his first career double double as he recorded 15 points, 12 rebounds, while adding seven assists, four blocks, and two steals.
- Luke Michalski (11), Baril Mawo (11), and Zee McCown (10) all recorded double-digit points.
- After knocking down both free throws at the 13:36 marker of the first half, Baril Mawo surpassed 1000 career points. He scored 519 at Bay de Coc Community College in Escanaba, Michigan, before scoring the remainder at Assumption.
- Southern Connecticut had the slight edge on the glass (36-35), while Assumption outscored the opposition 20-4 in points off turnovers.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 32-18.
