HOW IT HAPPENED:
Before the game,
Baril Mawo and
Daouda Dembele were honored for each scoring their 1,000th career point within the last week. Each player was key to the Greyhounds' victory. First, it was Mawo, who hit back-to-back threes in the opening half to get the Hounds their first lead.
Lenny Tangishaka also had a big impact, scoring 14 points in the first half to lead the offense. The first 20 minutes were closed out by Dembele striking twice inside the perimeter, bumping Assumption's lead up to eight points, 45-37.
Dembele took over in the second half. He was king of the paint, scoring 13 points and reeling in six rebounds in the second half alone. Saint Anselm's Josh Morissette hit a three-pointer that gave the Hawks a two-point lead with 14:43 to play. Tangishaka laced a three-pointer of his own 12 seconds after. To put the Greyhounds back on top. From there, the Hounds were able to pull away from the top team in the NE10. Distancing themselves with free throws and defensive stops, Assumption heard the final horn ahead by a dozen.
