Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball falls short against Pace, 62-59

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University men's basketball team overcame a 16-point deficit but would eventually fall to Pace University in the regular season finale, in the Northeast 10 Conference, on Wednesday evening inside Laska Gymnasium.

THE BASICS:
Score: Pace University 62, Assumption University 59
Records: Greyhounds (16-11, 11-7 NE10) | Setters (16-10, 11-7 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half was a major struggle out of the gate for the Greyhounds. Pace went on a 12-point run to command a 23-8 lead after the first ten minutes. For nine minutes of the opening half, the Hounds could only score from the free throw line. The Setters had their largest lead, 27-11, with 6:45 remaining in the opening half. Trailing 32-19 with two minutes to go in the half, Assumption was in need of a major swing. Baril Mawo sparked that swing with back-to-back threes, helping Assumption to a manageable nine-point deficit at halftime.

In the second half, the Blue and White opened up strong. Four consecutive defensive stops and scoring that began with a Lenny Tangishaka three, lifted the Greyhounds to within a basket, 38-40. Two possessions later, Mawo drove through the paint for a layup that reclaimed the lead momentarily, 42-41. Four lead changes in the next three minutes ended with the Setters in front 48-47. With 1:06 left on the clock, Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton tied it with a three-pointer from the corner. The last basket belonged to the Setters, who took the win 62-59.
