WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University softball team earned a split of the University of Bridgeport in non-conference action for the home opener for the Greyhounds at Normand R. Marois '57 Field. After falling in game one 1-0, the Hounds rallied for a 14-0 five-inning win in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: St. Thomas Aquinas College 8, Assumption University 0
Game one was a pitcher's duel, as the two starters didn't allow a hit until the top of the fourth when Mya Jones hit a single through the left side of the Assumption infield. After another single, making it runners on the corners with two outs in the frame, the Purple Knights executed a double steal to go up 1-0.
The Greyhounds would threaten in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but they were unable to scratch a run across and would fall 1-0.
Kaelin Waldron went the distance, scattering five hits while striking out four.
Game Two Score: Assumption University 14, University of Bridgeport 0 – 5 Innings
The nightcap was all Assumption from the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, the Greyhounds plated five runs, with
Maddy Bland,
Emma Bloom, Ella LeDuc, and
Bianca Vincequere recording RBI in the frame.
After a scoreless top of the second, the Hounds added four more runs in the second, as Bloom tripled home
Kaitlyn Cahill, before scoring on a
Molly Green single to center.
Jaiden Tonucci and Green came around to score as
Izzy Viglione reached on a dropped fly ball by the Bridgeport right fielder.
The Blue and White continued to expand their lead in the bottom of the third, as Bland plated Cahill and Vincequere before scoring on a Green bunt single.
Olivia Kurth capped off the scoring with a two-RBI single up the middle, driving in
Nevaeh Fatorma and
Kaylee Lacomb on the play.
Paige Cote picked up the win, as she scattered four hits and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings in the circle.
Kya Birtz pitched a perfect fifth inning to wrap up the game.
