HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Assumption University 7, Saint Anselm College 1
Assumption started fast, as
Maddy Bland got things started with an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Greyhounds doubled their lead in the second, as
Jaida Mills reached on an error by the Saint Anselm pitcher, which allowed
Jaiden Tonucci to come around to score.
After the Hawks got on the board with an RBI double from Brooke Tardugno, Bland struck again with an RBI triple to center field, plating
Kaitlyn Cahill on the play.
Emma Bloom capped off the bottom of the third with a single to left, plating Bland on the play.
In her next at-bat in the fifth, Bland decided to go deep, with a solo home run to right field, making it 5-1 Assumption. Tonucci came around to score later in the frame, as she executed a double-steal with
Niamh Foley.
Bianca Vincequere capped off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth, as she scored on a fielder's choice.
Kya Birtz went the distance in the circle for the Greyhounds, as she allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out ten.
Game Two Score: Saint Anselm College 4, Assumption University 3
Saint Anselm was the first team to get on the scoreboard in game two, but that was quickly answered by Assumption, as they plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth with
Kaylee Lacomb scoring on an infield single by
Ella McColgan, before scoring after stealing third on an error by the Hawks' catcher.
The Greyhounds would increase their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, as Bland crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Saint Anselm would not go away quietly, as Rose Reitmeyer hit a three-run home run down the left field line, giving the Hawks a 4-3 advantage. The Hounds would get a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but they could not complete the sweep and would fall in the nightcap, 4-3.
