Cote leads the way, as Softball splits at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass.—The Assumption University softball team split another Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader, as the Greyhounds took game one against Bentley University 1-0, before falling to the Falcons late, 6-5, Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Assumption University 1, Bentley University 0
Assumption started fast, as Kaylee Lacomb opened the game with a triple down the right field line. She would score two batters later, as Kaitlyn Cahill drove in Lacomb with an RBI single. The Greyhounds would threaten numerous times but were unable to find an insurance run. 
 
Assumption would not need more than one run, as Paige Cote picked up her second complete game shutout this season, as she struck out five over 7.0 innings and allowed just two base hits.

Game Two Score: Bentley University 6, Assumption University 5
Assumption was the first team to score in game two, as Jaiden Tonucci scored on a Lacomb bunt in the top of the second inning. The Greyhounds added to their advantage at the top of the fourth, as Siena Nardellis scored on a throwing error after stealing third base. Tonucci came around to score later in the frame, making it 3-0 Assumption. 
 
Bentley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, as Emma Callahan hit a two-run home run to left field, for the first hit for the Falcons. The hosts took the lead in the fifth, as they plated three runs in the inning and took a 6-3 lead. Assumption would not go quietly, scoring twice in the top of the seventh, but they could not find the equalizer and would fall 6-5.
