NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Assumption University softball team locked up a home playoff game in the upcoming Northeast 10 Conference playoffs, as the Greyhounds swept Southern Connecticut State University 5-1, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Assumption University 5, Southern Connecticut State University 1
In game one, Assumption would capitalize on five Southern Connecticut errors. The first one led to the first run of the game in the top of the second inning with
Siena Nardelli scoring on a miscue by the third baseman.
Bella Mara made it 2-0 with a solo home run in the fourth inning, before the Greyhounds scored twice in the fifth, with
Olivia Kurth driving in
Jaiden Tonucci before
Kaylee Lacomb stealing third and scoring on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Owls got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, before it was answered by
Mia Biancamano, who came around to score on an error by the SCSU shortstop.
Kaelin Waldron picked up her 10
th win of the year, as she pitched 4.2 innings, where she allowed just one run, while striking out four. Kya Kirtz came in for a seven-out save, as she faced the minimum and struck out a pair.
Game Two Score: Assumption University 4, Southern Connecticut State University 3
In the second contest,
Izzy Viglione put Assumption in front with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. After Southern Connecticut tied the game in the bottom of the frame, the Greyhounds plated three runs in the top of the fourth. Mara continued to swing a hot bat, as she doubled home
Maddy Bland, before Viglione scored on a
Bianca Vincequere single. Tonucci drove in Vincequere with an infield single, making it 4-1.
The Owls would plate one run in the fourth and one more in the seventh, but Birtz would slam the door shut for the second-straight game for a 4-3 final score.
