RINDGE, N.H.—For the first time in program history, the Assumption University softball team will be advancing to the NCAA Division II Super Regional, as the Greyhounds defeated Mercy University 9-0 in the winner-take-all game Sunday afternoon at Melissa Bisaccia Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One: Mercy University 9, Assumption University 4
Mercy was the first team to get on the scoreboard, as they plated one run in the bottom of the first inning, as Julianna Coluccio doubled home Allison Murphy on the play. The Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the second, as
Emma Bloom stole home on a double steal play.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the second, as Murphy doubled home two runs, before Mercy plated three runs in the bottom of the third to expand their advantage to 6-1. Assumption cut into the deficit, as
Jaiden Tonucci tripled home
Emma Bloom, before scoring on a
Molly Greene sacrifice fly to centerfield, making it 6-3.
Bella Mara drove in
Maddy Bland with a single to left field, cutting the deficit down to 6-4 in the top of the fifth. Mercy responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull away for a 9-4 win and forced a winner-take-all for the Regional Title.
Game Two: Assumption University 9, Mercy University 0 – 5 Innings
Assumption was the first team to get on the board in the bottom of the second, as
Bianca Vincequere drove in
Emma Bloom with a single through the right side of the infield. The Greyhounds added to their lead in the third, as Bland and Mara had RBI base-knocks up the middle, making it 3-0.
Assumption broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, as they plated six runs in the frame.
Kaylee Lacomb drove in Vincequere with a fielder's choice before Bland cleared the bases with a triple to center field. Mara followed up Bland with a triple of her own, before Sierra Nardelli scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Emma Bloom, extending the Greyhounds' advantage to 9-0.
Mercy would get one runner on at the top of the fifth, but they could not generate any other offense, as Assumption would win the East Regional Title, 9-0 in five innings.
