SPARKILL, N.Y.—The Assumption University softball team overcame a three-run deficit, but would fall to St. Thomas Aquinas 5-4, in game one of the NCAA Division II Super Regional on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field on the campus of St. Thomas Aquinas College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption started fast, as
Kaitlyn Cahill led off the game with a double down the left field, before scoring two batters later on a wild pitch. St. Thomas Aquinas College answered in the bottom half of the first, as they plated four runs, headlined by a two-run home run by Alyssa Haberstroh.
Maddy Bland cut into the deficit with an RBI groundout in the top of the third inning, scoring Cahill on the play. The Greyhounds trimmed the deficit down to one run, as
Siena Nardelli stole third and would get up and score after the throw from the catcher went wide.
Bella Mara capped off the comeback at the top of the seventh, as
Kaylee Lacomb scored on a two-out single by the freshman.
After two scoreless extra innings, St. Thomas Aquinas would walk off the game with a single in the bottom of the ninth to give the hosts the game one win in the Super Regional
