HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption wasted little time getting on the board, as
Cody Holbert opened the scoring just 5:49 into the contest off an assist from
Jorgo Karamelo for his fifth goal of the season. The Greyhounds doubled their advantage in the 15th minute when
Paul Booth found the back of the net for his second goal of the year.
The Greyhounds continued to pour on the pressure, with
Evan Conceicao extending the lead to 3-0 at 22:43 off a feed from
Evan Fletcher. Conceicao struck again just over nine minutes later, finishing another setup from Karamelo for his second goal of the afternoon and a 4-0 Assumption advantage.
Saint Anselm answered with goals from Jackson Dresens and Chance Prouty to trim the deficit to 4-2 late in the opening half, but Assumption responded almost immediately. Just 55 seconds after the Hawks' second goal,
Vebjoern Oeen scored his first goal of the season off an assist from
Alteo Spaho, sending the Greyhounds into halftime with a 5-2 lead.
Assumption added one more early in the second half, as Holbert converted a penalty kick at 50:24 for his second goal of the game and sixth of the season. The Greyhounds kept Saint Anselm off the board the rest of the way, while
Federico Foganio made two second-half saves to help close out the 6-2 victory.
