BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Assumption University volleyball team dropped a tightly contested four-set match to the University of Bridgeport Wednesday evening at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption battled back from an early deficit in the opening set, as back-to-back kills from
Grace Presswood helped the Greyhounds cut a 20-12 Bridgeport advantage to 20-16.
Brooke Bowbliss later added a kill as Assumption pulled within four, but the Purple Knights closed out the frame, 25-20.
The Greyhounds came out firing in the second set, scoring the first eight points behind kills from Lilyanna Petrocelli,
Cate Wettstone and Presswood, along with three service aces from
Brennah Abilheira-Cargill. Assumption never relinquished the lead, with
Kaitlyn Montgomery and Wettstone helping stretch the advantage to 22-15 before Petrocelli finished off the 25-18 victory to even the match at one set apiece.
The third set featured 13 ties and seven lead changes as neither side could pull away. Assumption used kills from Wettstone and Petrocelli to turn a 20-18 deficit into a 21-20 advantage. Bridgeport answered to move ahead 23-21, but Petrocelli brought the Greyhounds within one at 23-22 before the Purple Knights eventually took the tightly contested set, 25-23.
Assumption built a 12-8 advantage in the fourth behind a
Makenna Glenn service ace and a strong run from the service line. Bridgeport responded to regain the lead, but the Greyhounds continued to battle, using a
Natalie Brojek kill and
Lila Handrahan ace to pull within 22-20. Montgomery later made it 24-21 with a kill before Bridgeport secured the final point for a 25-21 set win and the 3-1 match decision.
