HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Michael's struck just 13 seconds into the contest, as Sarah Gormley scored off assists from Scarlett Brookes and Lola Follansbee to give the Purple Knights an early 1-0 advantage. Assumption settled in following the opening goal and generated several opportunities midway through the first half.
Lilina Shiers put a shot on goal in the 23rd minute before another attempt went wide moments later, while
Colbie Gisleson forced another save in the 37th minute. The Greyhounds held Saint Michael's scoreless for the remainder of the half and entered the break trailing 1-0.
Saint Michael's doubled its advantage shortly after halftime, with Gormley scoring her second goal of the game in the 47th minute.
Elizabeth Schoeneberger responded with a shot on goal just over a minute later, but Chloe Laizer saved it. The Purple Knights extended their lead to 3-0 in the 54th minute on a goal from Delaney Kleinman, while Shiers answered with another shot on target just 16 seconds later.
The Purple Knights added two more goals in the second half, with Jules Peterson scoring in the 67th minute and Brookes finding the back of the net in the 70th to make it 5-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kaylin Hebert and Emily Hickey combined for four saves for the Greyhounds.
- Saint Michael's outshot Assumption 14-11 and also had a 4-2 advantage in corners.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series 26-10-6.
