Worcester, Mass. (October 11) -- The Assumption women's volleyball team defeated Southern New Hampshire University in five sets, behind a huge double-double from sophomore Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn/Avon). Ostafin provided 17 kills to go along with 20 digs for her first double-double of the season and Assumption's first Northeast-10 victory of the year.
The set scores were 26-24, 22-25, 25-19, 26-28, 15-11.
Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) provided 12 kills, while Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) added 10.
Setter Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) added 41 assists and 16 digs for the Hounds, while libero Jess Reimers (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) had a team-high 20 digs for the defense.
Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) provided a team-high five service aces to go along with eight digs.
The Penmen were lead by Megan Lescynski, who had a match-high 20 kills and 20 digs, but also made 17 attack errors.
The Hounds move to 5-15 with the victory and 1-8 in the Northeast-10.
The Hounds host a tri-match on Saturday against Saint Anselm College and Mercy College. The first match will begin at noon in the Laska Gymnasium.
