Worcester, Mass. (October 15) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College volleyball team earned a split in a tri-match with Saint Anselm and Mercy at Laska Gym. The Hounds dropped a 3-0 Northeast-10 final to Saint Anselm, followed by a 3-0 sweep of Mercy in non-conference play. In the middle match, Saint Anselm blanked Mercy, 3-0, to sweep the day.
In the opening match of the day, the Hounds fell by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22 to the Hawks. Assumption was led offensively by sophomore Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) and senior Sam Lupinski (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) with seven kills each. Sophomore Jess Reimers (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) had a team-high 18 digs, while sophomore Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) had 22 on assists on 29 attack attempts.
In the 3-0 sweep of the Mavericks, Assumption won by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-20. Sophomore Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) led the Hounds with 10 kills, along with eight kills by Lupinski. Ostafin had a team-high eight digs, while Flatekval had 25 assists in the match.
Assumption now sits at 6-16 overall and 1-9 in Northeast-10 play following today's competition.
The Hounds are back in action on Tuesday evening as the team plays host to Stonehill for a 7 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
