Springfield, Mass. -- The Assumption Women's Lacrosse team continued their best season in years, eking out an 11-10 victory at American International College on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds were led by sophomore Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H./Southegan) and sophomore Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) led the way for Assumption with four goals each while senior Sarah Roos (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) scored three goals and had one assist. Freshman goalie Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) received the win and recorded eight saves.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior Courtney Szawlowski (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) led AIC in scoring with five goals and three assists. Junior Katie Carr (Florence, Mass./Northampton) and sophomore Ashleigh Szawlowski (Leeds, Mass./Northampton) scored two goals each, while freshman Jenna Stone (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) scored one goal. Freshman goalie Nicole Sawula (Hatfield, Mass./Northampton) received the loss after recording 12 saves.
The Greyhounds improved to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in the Northeast-10 while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-9 overall and 1-8 Northeast-10 play. Assumption is back in action on Tuesday as they host Stonehill, and will honor their graduating seniors.
