Worcester, Mass. (April 9) -- The Assumption women's lacrose team ran its winning streak to three straight with a 14-6 home win over visiting Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Stadium. The Greyhounds are now 5-4 overall and are off to their best start since a seven-win season in 2005.

The Purple Knights got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Spenser Wolfe before the Greyhounds rattled off four straight scores, including a pair of from sophomore Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan). Eliza Scoba and Elizabeth Siekman scored in a span of 58 seconds late in the first half though as the Greyhounds led by just a 4-3 margin at the halftime break.

In the second half it was nearly all Assumption as the Greyhounds blew the game open with four straight goals over the first 17 minutes of the period. Assumption scored on four free-position opportunities in the half and six in the game, while holding the Purple Knights scoreless on free-position opportunities. Scoring twice each in the second half were Mary Guinee (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet), Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and Erin Theriault (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam).

O'Rourke, Theriault, Santos, Guinee and Caitlin White (Bethany, Conn./Amity) all scored twice each for the Greyhounds, while Siekman had a pair of goals to lead Saint Michael's.

Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 11 saves to pick up the victory in net, while Sandy Palumbo made 14 stops while taking the loss.

Assumption is now 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Michael's falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Greyhounds are back in action on Sunday morning as the team hosts Molloy for a non-conference game beginning at 11 a.m. at Multi-Sport Stadium.
