Worcester, Mass. (September 20) -- The Assumption College volleyball team fell to Southern Conn. State University in a five-set thriller on Tuesday.
The Hounds held a 2-1 lead, and appeared to be in a strong position to win, but dropped the final two games. Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) led the Hounds with 15 kills on 30 attempts. Freshman Bizzie Gonring (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Dominican) finished with 10 kills, good for second on the team.
Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) finished one kill shy of a double-double, with 10 digs and nine kills. Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) led the Hounds with 12 digs, and Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) had 38 assists to lead the team.
The game scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-28, 20-25, 9-15.
The Hounds move to 4-8 on the season and 0-3 in the Northeast-10 with the loss. The Owls move to 6-3 overall, and 1-1 in the conference.
Assumption hits the court next on Thursday, September 22nd at Merrimack. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. in North Andover.
