Box Score Worcester, Mass. (January 11) -- Led by a 21-point effort from Brian Hamor, the Stonehill men's basketball team defeated Assumption by a 63-51 final on Wednesday night at Laska Gym. The Skyhawks went to the line nine times in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 18 points, en route to the 12-point victory.
To open the game, the Hounds held Stonehill without a field goal for the first 11:09 and jumped out to a 14-3 advantage midway thru the period. A layup from Patrick Lee sparked the Skyhawks though and ignited a 14-0 run that was capped by a three-pointer from Adam Fazzini with 6:34 left. Assumption went back out in front by five after a three-pointer from Cory Schmidt (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) before the Skyhawks took a 25-24 lead into the halftime break.
Stonehill opened the second half with a 15-4 run to lead 40-28 with 14 minutes left and pushed the lead up to 19 before coming away with the 12-point victory.
Assumption was led by 14 points each from Schmidt and Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross), while Hamor paced Stonehill with 21 points.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Hounds travel to Saint Anselm for a 3:30 p.m. start at Stoutenburgh Gym.
