Box Score Worcester, Mass. (November 10) -- The Assumption College volleyball team dro
pped a 3-2 final to Franklin Pierce University at the Laska Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the match, the Greyhounds honored senior Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) for her contributions to the program.
In the game, Whooten had 11 digs in the match, while Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) had a team-high 12 kills. Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) each had nine kills for the Greyhounds.
Junior Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) had a team-high 42 assists in the match.
The Greyhounds took a tightly contested first set by a 27-25 final. Assumption jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the second set, and consecutive kills by Flatekval extended the lead to 22-13. The Greyhounds closed out the match to win by a 25-16 margin.
Assumption dropped consecutive sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-21, allowing the Ravens to force a decisive fifth set.
The Greyhounds battled in the fifth set, eventually falling by a 15-9 final.
Assumption finishes the season with a 10-20 record, including a 4-11 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the Ravens improve to 19-13 with the win, including a 12-4 mark in league action.
