Rindge, N.H. (September 13) -- The Assumption College volleyball team lost to Franklin Pierce University in straight sets in a non-conference match between the two Northeast-10 Conference opponents.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 5-7 with an 0-1 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play, while Franklin Pierce improves to 4-5 with no record in league play. The Ravens swept to the victory by set scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-15. The two teams will meet for their Northeast-10 Conference match in the regular-season finale on Nov. 10 at Assumption.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon), junior middle Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and junior outside hitter Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) each tallied seven kills. The remainder of the Greyhounds' offense totaled just eight kills on the evening. Junior setter Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) quarterbacked the Assumption offense throughout the night and finished with 23 assists.

Defensively, the Greyhounds were led by Ostafin, who chalked up 13 digs, while senior libero Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Norton) added eight more. 

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 as Assumption will square off against Merrimack College. The match will begin at 11 a.m. in the Laska Gymnasium.
