Worcester, Mass. (September 15) -- The Assumption College volleyball team dropped a five-set match to Merrimack College on Saturday morning at the Laska Gymnasium.

The Greyhounds took the first two matches by set scores of 25-22, and 25-23, before dropping the final three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 15-8.

Assumption was paced by junior Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon), who posted a strong double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs.

Junior Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) ranked second on the team with 13 kills. Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Norton) finished with 17 digs, good for second on the team.

Junior Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) led the offense throughout the morning, finishing with a match-high 41 assists.

The Greyhounds fall to 5-8 with the loss, while Merrimack improves to 2-5.

Assumption will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18, as the team will play host to Bentley University. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.
