(September 25) -- The Assumption College volleyball team defeated Southern Conn. State University, 3-1, at the Pelz Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday.

Junior Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) finished with 19 kills, one of three Greyhounsd with more than 15 in the match, and added six blocks while hitting .607.

Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) added 15 kills and nine assists for Assumption, while Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) recorded 15 kills on .483 hitting. Junior Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) dished out 52 assists for Assumption in the victory.

Assumption won by set scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, and 25-17 and the team improves to 7-10 overall with a 2-2 record in Northeast-10 Conference play. SCSU falls to 14-3 and 2-1 in league play.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday, Sept. 28 against Saint Michael's College. The Match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.
