Mancester, N.H. (September 30) -- The Assumption College volleyball team split a tri-match with Merrimack College and Saint Anselm College at the Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on Sunday.

The Greyhounds defeated Saint Anselm College, 3-2, in the first match, before falling to Merrimack College, 3-2, in the second match.

Assumption finishes the day at 9-11, including a 3-2 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Greyhounds beat Saint Anselm College by set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 22-25, and 15-4.

Junior Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) had a team-high 32 kills on the day, including 18 as part of a strong double-double against Saint Anselm College. Johnston added 14 digs to complete the double-double.

Junior Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) posted nine kills and nine digs in the win over Saint Anselm.

Freshman Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) posted 91 assists in two matches in her first two collegiate starts, with 47 against Saint Anselm. Bagwell added a team-high 19 digs and five kills to her impressive first collegiate start. The freshman followed that up with 44 assists against Merrimack.

Senior Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) had 40 digs in two matches, including a career-high 25 against Merrimack in the second match.

The Greyhounds dropped the second match to Merrimack by set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, and 9-15.

Junior Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) recorded 11 kills against Merrimack, while Ostafin had nine kills and 14 digs.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd at American International College. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
