Box Score Waltham, Mass. (November 20) -- In the Northeast-10 opener on Wednesday evening on the road, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped an 88-76 final to the visiting Hounds at the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass.
The teams were tied at 14 over the first seven minutes of the game before a 12-2 run, capped by a basket from junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech), put the Hounds up by their biggest lead at 26-16 with 10:40 on the block. Bentley came alive over the second half of the opening period as well, closing the half with a 25-10 of its own to hold a 41-36 lead heading into the halftime break.
In the second, the Hounds took a 46-43 lead on a deep three-pointer from sophomore Chris Fitzgerald (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) with 16:21 left as Assumption pulled ahead to start the period. Bentley eventually put together a run in the period and jumped out to a 76-64 with just over five minutes left as the Falcons pulled away to secure the victory. Assumption tied the game at 54-54 with over 11 minutes left in the game as the two teams battled for momentum heading into the final stretch.
The Falcons eventually took the momentum with a 12-3 second-half run as Bentley ended up with the 12-point final margin of victory. The two teams will meet again at Laska Gym in Worcester on February 5th at 7:30 p.m. in Worcester.
Freshman Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) led the team with 23 points, along with 13 from Bobb-Jones and 18 from Fitzgerald. Alex Furness led four Falcons in double figures with a season-best 27 points.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Northeast-10 play, while Bentley improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, November 23rd as the Hounds host Saint Anselm College for a 3:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym. The game is the team's Code Blue Game for the 2013-2014 season.
