Waltham, Mass. (April 13) -- Sophomore Amy McNeil (Amity, Conn. / Amity) tied a school record with 60 goals in a single season as the Assumption College women's lacrosse team
dropped a 16-10 final to No. 12 Bentley University on Saturday.
McNeil, Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston), and Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) each scored two goals in the game while Lindsay Hagerman (Scarborough, Maine / Scarborough) had a team-high three points with a goal and two assists.
The Falcons shot ahead by four goals over the first eight minutes of action, capped by a free position shot goal by Kelsey Howard with 21:59 to play in the half.
The teams traded goals over the next ten minutes as Santos got Assumption on the board with a free position shot at the 18:23 mark in the half. Amy Ernst extended the lead back out to four for the Falcons before Auger again cut the lead to three with a free position shot with 14:24 to play in the half.
After another goal by Bentley, Santos scored her second goal of the half on a free position shot to get Assumption back within three, 6-3, with 9:12 to play in the half.
Bentley then went on a three-goal spurt to push the lead to six, 9-3, capped by a goal by Ernst with just over six minutes remaining in the half.
The Greyhounds rallied with the final three goals of the half to cut the lead to three heading into the break. Auger got the rally started with an unassisted marker at the 3:19 mark in the half before McNeil scored her 59th goal of the season on a goal assisted by Hagerman.
Hagerman then capped the run with a free position shot with 59 seconds to play in the half, bringing Assumption within three, 9-6.
Coming out of halftime, Bentley regained control of the game with three consecutive goals over the first three minutes of the second half to push the lead back to six.
McNeil attempted to get the Greyhounds back on track with her record-tying 60th goal at the 26:09 mark in the second half. With the goal, Mcneil tied Karen Shaw for the most goals in a single season.
The teams traded goals over the next nine minutes as Caitlin White (Bethany, Conn. / Amity) and Kathryn Beall (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) added goals over that stretch for the Greyhounds. After consecutive goals by the Falcons, senior Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H. / Souhegan) capped the scoring in the game with 7:26 to play.
Junior Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y. / Deer Park) took the loss for the Greyhounds, making 10 saves while allowing 16 goals. Ally Dorman earned the win for the Falcons, making nine saves in the game.
Junior Mary Guinee (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet) led all Greyhounds with five draw controls.
The Greyhounds fall to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the loss while Bentley improves to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in league play.
Assumption will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17th as the Greyhounds will play host to the University of New Haven. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
Prior to the game, Assumption will honor its senior class for their contributions to the program.
