Box Score 2 Worcester, Mass. (September 7) -- The Assumption College volleyball team earned a split in a tri-match with Saint Anselm College and Dominican College at Laska Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Greyhounds dropped a four-set match to Saint Anselm College to start the day before sweeping Dominican in straight sets to close the day.
In the victory over the Chargers, Assumption hit .277 as a team, including a .353 hitting percentage by senior Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y. / Skaneateles). Merle finished the game tied for a team-best with eight kills, while fellow senior Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn. / Avon) also put up eight kills with a .300 hitting percentage.
Senior Jess Reimers (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) led the team defensively with 10 digs, while Ostafin provided eight digs to bolster her all-around game. Setter Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J. / Immaculate Heart) had 21 assists in the win, leading all players in the contest.
The Greyhounds move to 1-1 on the season with the split, while Saint Anselm College went 2-0 on the day and Dominican went 0-2.
Assumption will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10 as the Greyhounds will play host to Stonehill College. The match will begin at 7 p.m. in Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.
