Worcester, Mass. (November 4) -- The Assumption College volleyball team wrapped up home play on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Pace University at Laska Gymnasium. Prior to the match, the Greyhounds honored seniors Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) and Bizzie Gonring (Whitefish Bay, Wis. / Dominican) and graduate student Alie Carlson (Amston, Conn. / RHAM).

With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 7-14 on the season, 4-9 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Setters drop to 4-21 overall, 1-11 in the league.

The scores for Tuesday's sets were as follows: 25-20, 25-13 and 25-14.

The first set began in favor of the Setters as they took an early 3-0 lead. The Hounds trailed until a kill from Donahue tied it up at 7-7. The squads continued the close play until Assumption went on a three-point run sparked by a kill by Gonring. Assumption took the 13-10 lead before eventually claiming the 25-20 victory ending on a service run by freshman Stephanie Hawley (Savannah, Ga. / St. Vincent's Academy).

In the second set, Assumption got out to a 2-0 lead before allowing Pace to tie it up at 5-5. A six-point run for the Hounds got Assumption out to an 11-6 lead, a five-point deficit the Setters could not rebound from. Assumption closed the set on another Donahue kill for the 25-13 final.

Pace grabbed the first point in set three, but the Hounds went on an impressive 10-point run to get out to a 10-1 lead. The Hounds continued the momentum to take the final set, and the match, on a Carlson kill.

The Greyhound offense was led by Donahue who tallied 12 kills on the night on just 26 attacks for a .346 kill percentage. The senior also posted a team-high three blocks in her final game in Laska Gymnasium.

Following Donahue was Hawley with eight kills and Gonring with seven.

Defensively, junior Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) led the Hounds with 18 digs, followed closely by freshman setter Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) who notched 16 digs and 30 assists.

Assumption will conclude the season on the road when they travel to Saint Anselm on Friday, Nov. 7 for a 7:30 p.m. match-up.
