Worcester, Mass. (December 3) -- On Wednesday night, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped a 57-46 home final to Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action at Laska Gym. The Hounds rallied to within five with just over three minutes remaining before the Skyhawks stretched the lead back to the final margin of 11.

Stonehill jumped out to an 11-6 lead over the opening eight minutes of the first before five straight points by Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota), including a three-pointer from near the top of the key, tied the game at 11 with 10:45 remaining in the period. The Skyhawks answered with a 10-2 run over the next 3:19, capped by a jumper from Josh Heyliger, to lead by a 21-13 margin with 7:26 on the clock.

Assumption wasn't done in the period though as the Hounds put together a 12-4 run of its own to tie the game at 25-25 with 30 seconds left in the half. A layup by sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) with 1:40 remaining pulled the Hounds within two, followed by a Bey layup with 30 seconds remaining for the equalizer. Stonehill's Jack Cole put the visitors in front 27-25 at the break as he scored at the buzzer on a putback following a missed shot by Daniel Brix.

In the second period, the Hounds tied the game for the third time on a layup by junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech) on the first possession of the half. A 7-0 Stonehill run put the Skyhawks in front 34-27 with 15:58 remaining, but the Hounds answered right back and cut the lead to 34-31 on a layup from Bobb-Jones. Assumption stayed within two possessions thru the midway point of the second period, including at 38-33 with 9:32 left after a Bobb-Jones layup.

Stonehill extended the lead back to 11 at 47-36 with 6:41 on the clock, capped by a three-pointer by Adam Bramanti that banked in off the glass to tie the team's biggest lead of the game. Assumption fought back and closed back to within five at 49-44 with 3:06 remaining as sophomore Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) scored on a layup for his second basket of the game. Stonehill kept the pressure up though and pulled away over the final minutes, en route to the 11-point victory.

Bey led the Hounds with a 14-point outing behind 8-for-10 shooting from the line, while senior Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) led the team with 11 rebounds. For the game, Assumption finished 13-for-18 at the free throw line, including nine made free throws in the second half. In addition, Assumption turned the ball over just eight times in the game.

Ryan Logan posted 13 points for Stonehill, along with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double by Cole. Stonehill finished with a 40 percent shooting percentage from the field, along with 35.3 from three-point land and 84.6 percent at the charity stripe.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in Northeast-10 play, while Stonehill improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, December 6th as the Hounds host Merrimack College for a 3:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
