Worcester, Mass. (September 30) -- The Assumption College volleyball team fell to Adelphi at home on Tuesday evening by a score of 3-0. With the loss, the Hounds drop to 3-7 overall (1-2 NE-10) while the Panthers move to 5-9 (3-0 NE-10).
The Greyhounds opened Tuesday's match with a 3-0 run before allowing Adelphi to come back, and take the lead, with a five-point run to make it 6-5. From there the Panthers continued the rally, ultimately taking the set-one win 25-15. The Hounds would get no closer throughout the next to sets, dropping the second 25-10 and the third 25-14.
Senior Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) and freshman Stephanie Hawley (Savannah, Ga. / St. Vincent's Academy) led the Hounds on offense with four kills apiece. Hawley also posted four digs.
Defensively it was freshman Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) who took over the libero position during the match to lead Assumption with seven digs. Chrisom was followed by freshman Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake), who tallied five. Romanik also dished 13 assists on the day.
Assumption earned 18 kills compared to 45 for the Panthers and posted 22 digs, compared to 32 for Adelphi.
The Hounds are set to return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, at Saint Rose. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
