-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team earned back-to-back wins on Saturday claiming a close 3-2 victory over NE-10 opponent Saint Rose before earning a 3-1 win over Mercy. Senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) tallied a career high 19 kills in the Hounds' second match of the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - MATCH ONE vs. Saint Rose:
-Freshman Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) and sophomore Stephanie Hawley (Savannah, Ga. / St. Vincent's Academy) led the Hounds with 12 kills apiece in the match.
-Reilly added nine kills and posted an impressive eight blocks.
-Sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) collected 37 assists while adding nine digs.
-Defensively, senior Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) led Assumption with 16 digs while sophomore Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) added 13 more.
-Saint Rose's Rachel Salasky led al players with 16 kills on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED - MATCH ONE:
-The Hounds fell in the first two sets 25-21, 25-20 before rallying to take the remaining sets for the victory.
-The Hounds were able to finish in set three with a 25-21 victory, led by sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) who posted three of the Hounds' 10 kills. Assumption got out to a four-point lead, 10-4, on a Smith ace and held it until the Golden Knights tied the score at 13-13. The Hounds continued to gain a one-point advantage, but Saint Rose tied the score six times through 20-20. Assumption rattled off three straight points for a 23-21 lead before a Reilly ace clinched the 25-21 win.
-In set four, the Hounds got out to an early 6-2 lead and, despite the Golden Knights keeping it close, the Hounds never relinquished the advantage, 25-21.
-Assumption jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker set and tallied three more that included a Smith kill and a Chrisom service ace to make it 8-2 in the fifth. The squads tied it up 12-12 but a kill by Hawley and a Bagwell ace led to the 15-12 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - MATCH TWO vs. Mercy:
-Reilly led all players with 19 kills in match two while adding a block. She also totaled just three errors in 39 total attacks for an impressive .410 kill percentage.
-Romanik accumulated 45 assists in the match and added 14 digs, third-most on the team.
-Bagwell notched 20 digs to lead all players on the court.
-As a team, the Hounds tallied 56 kills compared to just 28 for the Mavericks and a .205 kill percentage compared to .021 for Mercy.
HOW IT HAPPENED - MATCH TWO:
-Assumption let the first match slip (25-23) despite tying the score 23-23, before roaring back for a commanding 25-8 victory in the second set to reclaim their momentum.
-The Mavericks claimed the first point in set two but the Hounds came back and went on a 7-0 run to make it 9-2. An ensuing eight-point run put the game out of reach at 21-6. The run featured three kills by Hawley.
-Assumption kept the momentum going in the third, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. Mercy brought it to 11-5 before the Hounds tacked on five more to make it 16-5. Mercy fought to come back and came as close as three, 20-17, before Assumption closed the set on a 5-1 run for the 25-18 victory. Reilly led the Hound offense in the set with four kills and a .500 kill percentage.
-The Greyhounds kept rolling in the fourth and final set, earning a 25-16 victory. In similar fashion to the rest of the match, Assumption got out to an early lead (7-2) and kept the lead for the remainder of the set.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:
-The Hounds were the only squad on the day to win both matches.
-Reilly's 19 kills marks a new career-best, surpassing her previous total of 18 which she set earlier this season against Post on Sept. 12.
-Reilly's eight blocks against Saint Rose ties her career high.
-Romanik's 45 assists against Mercy is the second-most she has accumulated in a single match this season.
-Bagwell's 20 digs marks her most in a single match this season.

-The Hounds are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 17, as they travel to Saint Michael's for another NE-10 match up. Assumption returns home for three straight home matches against conference opponents on Oct. 20, 27 and 31.
