THE BASICS:

-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team rallied back from a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead on Saturday before falling in five sets to NE-10 opponent Saint Michael's on the road. With the loss, the Hounds fall to 2-5 in the league on the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

-Sophomore Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) led the Greyhound offense with 14 kills and four blocks, followed by senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) who notched 12 kills and five blocks.

-Sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) and freshman Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) each posted 11 kills to add to the Hounds' 63-kill total.

-Defensively, Smith led the Hounds with 15 digs, followed by libero Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) who tallied 13. 

-Sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) posted 50 assists on the day.

-Saint Michael's Megan Priester led all players with 22 kills for a .462 kill percentage.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Reilly led all players with a .550 kill percentage.

-Saturday's five-match game marks the fifth the Hounds have played this season. Assumption is 3-2 in five-set matches this season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds dropped the first set 25-19 before rallying in sets two and three to take a 2-1 lead. Assumption won set two 25-18 and followed with a set three victory, 25-19.

-With Assumption up by one set in the fourth, the squads battled to a 26-24 extra-point final in favor of the Purple Knights. The squads traded points throughout the match and tied the score 15 times. The Hounds had a 24-23 advantage (match-point) before a Priester kill tied it at 24 apiece. A two-straight-point comeback from Saint Michael's clinched the match for the home team and kept the Purple Knights alive heading into the fifth.

-In the fifth, Saint Michael's continued their fourth-set momentum and opened with a 5-0 run en route to the 15-9 final.
