-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team dropped three sets to American International on Tuesday evening in Laska Gymnasium by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-18. Tuesday's match marks the first of three at home, the Hounds return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when they host Stonehill at 6 p.m.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) led the Greyhound offense with seven kills on just 17 attempts for a team-high .235 kill percentage.
-Sophomore Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) was also a strong force offensively for the Hounds, posting six kills on 19 attempts for a .158 percentage.
-Both Reilly and Burke added three blocks on the day to lead Assumption at the net.
-Defensively, libero Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) posted a team-high 13 digs while freshman Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) followed with 10.
-AIC's Natalija Dordevic and Diva Rivas led all players with 11 kills on the day while Mercy Rivera tallied 20 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-AIC got out to a commanding 20-12 lead in set one en route to their eventual 25-18 win. Assumption attempted a comeback and rattled off four straight points on a service run by sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) that included kills from Burke, Smith and sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy). The Yellow Jackets regained their momentum however and closed the set on a 5-2 run.
-In set two, Assumption got out to an 8-4 lead and maintained it until AIC tied it up at 13 apiece. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set and Assumption gained a narrow 23-22 lead on a Burke kill, before the Yellow Jackets tallied the final two points for the win.
-The Hounds went down early in set three, falling behind 5-0 en route to the 25-18 loss.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-With her two block assists on Tuesday, Reilly now totals 47 for the season. She has made her way back into the Assumption record book for the second-straight season, cracking the top 10 in single-season block assists (10th), just one below her total from last year (48, 9th).
UP NEXT:
-Tuesday's match marks the first of three in a row at home for the Hounds. Assumption hosts Stonehill on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in a Blue Out.
