HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds took a 25-21 victory in set one after a hard-fought first game. Assumption eventually gained a commanding 23-16 lead, but a four-point run by New Haven put the Chargers in reach, 23-20. A kill from sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) put the Hounds within reach of the set point, but a Greyhound attack error put the Chargers right back in it, 24-21. It was Hawley who clinched the win with a kill, assisted by Romanik, for the final point.
-In sets two and three, the Hounds kept it close but ultimately fell by scores of 25-18 and 25-19, respectively.
-New Haven set the tone early in set two with a 5-0 lead, extended it to 8-1 and continued the momentum to claim the set.
-In the third, the Hounds got out to an 8-5 lead before the Chargers tied it on two Assumption errors and a New Haven kill, 8-8. Assumption rebounded with three consecutive kills by Smith to reclaim the lead 11-8 and extended it to 14-10 before New Haven rallied with five straight points to take a 15-14 lead. The Hounds tied it at 15 apiece before UNH posted three more straight en route to the 25-19 final.
-UNH kicked off with the lead in the fourth but Assumption came roaring back with a five-point run on two service aces from Chrisom and a Reilly kill to take a 7-4 lead. The Hounds retained the lead almost throughout the entire match, 23-22, but the Chargers tied it 23-23 and closed out the last two points for the comeback win.
