Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Holy Family 94, Assumption 80

- Records: Assumption (4-6, 1-5 NE-10) Holy Family (9-2, 4-0 CACC)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Laska Gym)

- The Lead: On the first day of the East Region Classic, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped a 94-80 final to visiting Holy Family University in non-conference play at Laska Gym. The teams traded the lead back and forth in the opening period before the Tigers pulled away in the second half for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Holy Family got out to the early lead before the Hounds came out of a timeout and cut the advantage to 8-7 after a three from junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Haddam Senior College). The Hounds took a 10-8 lead just 32 seconds later on a three from senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota) and extended the edge to four on a short jumper from sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson).

- Tied at 17-17, the Tigers embarked on an 11-4 run that was capped by a three from Xavier Williams to stake to the 28-21 lead with 7:39 left in the half. Assumption answered with a run of its own though and after a Soukup three with 3:38 on the clock, the Hounds held the 32-31 edge. Holy Family held a two-point edge with four seconds left after a Marvin Crawford layup, but Assumption took the 42-41 lead into the half following a halfcourt shot at the buzzer from freshman Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va./Christ Chapel Academy).

- The Tigers came out of the break on a 10-0 run to take the 51-42 lead before Owens ended the run with a hoop with 17:23 left. Holy Family pushed the lead to double figures at 55-44, but the Hounds cut the lead down to seven at 56-49 with 15:12 on the clock after a Soukup three. Holy Family led by double digits over the remainder of the game though, avenging last year's 64-62 Hounds win in Philadelphia.

- In game one of the East Region Classic, Philadelphia University defeated the College of Saint Rose by a narrow 72-69 final. The teams traded the lead 12 times before the Rams came away with the three-point win. Four Rams finished in double figures, including 18 points each from Kaison Randolph and Peter Alexis. Philadelphia now sits at 10-2 on the season, while Saint Rose is 6-5. Saint Rose will take on Holy Family University for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Bey led four Hounds in double figures with 19 points and six rebounds, along with 14 points from junior Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus). Soukup posted 12 points and a team-best six assists, while junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) added 11.

- Reggie Charles and Isaiah Gans led four Tigers in double figures with 22 points each, along with 21 from Eric Fleming and 13 off the bench from Crawford.

- The teams combined for 35 three-pointers in the game, with Holy Family outscoring the Hounds 60-45 from deep. The score was tied twice and the teams traded the lead back and forth 14 times.
