HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams took an early 10-6 lead before the Hounds cut the lead to one after a three from Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Haddam Senior College) with 15:22 left. A three from junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) pushed the Hounds ahead 18-12 two minutes later before four quick Ram points made it 18-16.
- Assumption used a 13-0 run over a span of 3:26, capped by a three from sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson), to push the lead to 31-16 with 6:55 left. Assumption led by at least eight for the rest of the period before taking a 42-31 edge into halftime following a late three from senior Julian Aiken (Randolph, N.J./Randolph).
- The Hounds knocked down 10 three-pointers in the first half as Bey and Soukup each tallied double figures over the opening 20 minutes.
- Philadelphia came out strong in the second half, cutting the lead down to only four at 44-40 after a basket from Eric Long forced a Hound timeout with 15:12 left. A three-point play from TJ Higgins eventually cut the deficit to just three at 48-45 before the Hounds used a quick 9-1 run to push to a double-digit edge at 57-46.
- The Rams used 14 straight points from Peter Alexis to pull within 68-65 with 4:53 remaining, but that was as close as the visitors got in the 10-point final. A corner three from junior Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) made it 75-67 with 2:51 on the clock, followed by a number of baskets in transition and four free throws to seal the victory.
