Box Score

Hillburn, N.Y. (March 10) -- In a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-5 road win over Dominican College. The Hounds, who were receiving votes in this week's IWLCA Division II National Poll, jumped out to a 3-0 start for the third straight season under fifth-year head coach Abbey Capobianco.

In the opening 15 minutes, the Hounds staked to a 6-0 lead after a goal from junior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) as five different Assumption players scored in the run. After Dominican's Allison Smithwick ended the scoring spurt with a goal at the 14:18 mark, the Hounds outscored the Chargers by a 5-1 margin over the rest of the half for the 11-2 halftime edge. Sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), who ended the game with her first career hat trick, scored an unassisted man-down goal for the Hounds with 10:39 left in the period. Capping off the first half was a goal with 19 seconds left by sophomore Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug), assisted on by senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) for the nine-goal advantage.

In the second half, senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) scored just 17 seconds into the period for the 12-2 lead as she ended the game with nine points on four goals and five assists. The Hounds scored the next five goals as well, including two goals from Auger and an unassisted tally by freshman Erin Gildea (Boca Raton, Fla./Pope John Paul II), to seize the 17-2 advantage with 13:52 remaining.

The Chargers outscored the Hounds 3-1 over the remainder of the game as the Hounds improved to 3-0 in non-conference play in 2015.

McNeil led all players with four goals and five assists, while Auger picked up four goals and one assist. Freshman Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) posted another hat trick, while McDonald added three goals of her own. McNeil enters the next game just seven points shy of tying the Assumption College career scoring record, which is at 221 points from AC Hall of Fame member Jenny Mongeau.

For the Chargers, Southwick led the hosts with three goals.

For the game, the Hounds held a 20-11 advantage in ground balls and forced 13 Dominican turnovers. Assumption also outshot Dominican 39-19 overall and converted 15-of-17 clear attempts.

Sophomore goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) had 16 saves, while Brittany Kiernan turned aside 13 shots for the Chargers.

With the win, Assumption improves to 3-0 overall, while Dominican drops to an 0-2 mark for the season.

Assumption is back in action on Thursday afternoon as the Hounds host Tiffin University for a 4 p.m. start at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
