Garden City, N.Y. (March 14) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 1 ranked Adelphi University by a 14-4 final in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Adelphi took the early 2-0 lead over the first 3:47 before Assumption freshman Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) tallied her second career goal to cut the lead to 2-1 with 25:21 remaining in the first half. Assisting on the goal was senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity), who tied the Assumption College career point scoring record in the process with her 221st point of her four-year career. Adelphi closed the first half on a 7-0 run, fueled by three goals from Alex Froccaro, as the Panthers took the eventual 9-1 advantage into the break.

The Panthers stretched the lead to 11-1 before free-position goals from senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) and sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) cut the edge down to 11-3 with 18:16 remaining in the contest. A free-position goal with 4:27 left from sophomore Jacqueline Jahelka made it a 14-3 margin before the fourth goal in the last two games by junior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) accounted for the 14-4 final score.

Assumption converted 14-of-18 clear attempts, including a perfect 5-for-5 in the second half. The Hounds owned a 5-4 edge in draw controls in the second as well, along with a 2-for-3 performance in free-position scoring chances as Assumption was outscored by just a 5-3 margin in the second period .

In goal, sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) had seven saves in the loss, while Taylor Hayes had seven stops for the win.

Assumption drops to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Adelphi now sits at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Hounds are back in action at home on Monday, March 16th as Assumption hosts Saint Michael's for a Northeast-10 Conference game beginning at 4 p.m.
