Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (March 28) -- On a snowy Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-9 final to No. 4/8 Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Assumption jumped on the board first on the 12th goal of the season from sophomore Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) just 3:29 in for the 1-0 edge. Stonehill answered just under five minutes later with an unassisted score from senior Emily Kessel, sparking a 4-0 scoring run for the 4-1 edge after 12 minutes. Junior Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) ended the run with her eighth goal of the season as she was assisted on the goal by senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity), making it 4-2 midway thru the opening half.

The Skyhawks closed the period strong though, scoring the final six goals of the half to seize control at 10-2 after 30 minutes. Stonehill controlled 11-of-13 draw control attempts in the first period, while Assumption was successful on 5-of-7 clears in the half and forced seven Skyhawk turnovers.

In the second, Stonehill pushed the lead to as much as 14-3 before the Hounds offense settled in. After the 22nd goal of the season from McNeil made it a 14-4 margin, Molloy and sophomore Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) found the back of the net for the 14-6 score with under 10 minutes remaining. McNeil and Molloy, along with junior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) scored over the remainder of the game as the Skyhawks came away with the 16-9 final.

Sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) made 11 saves in the loss, while Ashley Armstrong turned aside six Assumption shots while picking up her ninth win of the season.

For the game, the Hounds held a 19-13 advantage in ground balls and converted 10-of-14 clear opportunities, while Stonehill outshot Assumption by a 29-23 margin.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in Northeast-10 play, while Stonehill remains perfect at 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday afternoon as the Hounds travel to Bentley University for a 3:30 p.m. start.
