Women's Lacrosse Rallies for 13-12 Road Win At FIT

Melbourne, Florida (March 4) -- Rallying from an 11-8 margin with 24:09 remaining in the game, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team pulled out a 13-12 road win at Florida Tech on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Pirate Stadium. The Hounds are receiving votes in this week's IWLCA Division II National Poll.

The even game played out over the opening 20:13 of the stanza as senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) found the net on a free-position goal for the 5-5 tie that knotted the contest with just 9:47 left in the first. FIT's Allie Modica put the Panthers up 6-5 at 7:31 on an even-strength goal and continued to lead by an eventual 8-6 margin nearing the break. The game finally went into the halftime at 9-7 though as a goal by FIT's Modica with 39 seconds remaining in the first half capped off the period.

In the second, Assumption fell behind 11-7 early before a free-position goal from senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) sliced into the advantage. The Hounds continued the eventual 6-0 scoring run to take the lead in the contest at 12-11 on a McNeil free-position goal at the 8:45 mark as Auger added to the advantage with an even-strength goal with just 6:15 remaining.

For the Panthers, Sara Grenier added the final goal of the game for the hosts as she tallied a man-up score to account for the 13-12 final and keep the Hounds unbeaten early on in the season.

McNeil and Auger each added three goals to lead the Hounds offense, while McNeil also posted two assists for the five-point night. Assumption outshot the Panthers by a 37-29 margin and held a convincing 19-8 lead in draw controls as the Hounds registered nine free-position scores overall in the win. Florida Tech came away with a 28-22 edge in ground balls as the team continued its inaugural season as a varsity program.

With the win, Assumption remains unbeaten at 2-0 overall, while Florida Tech drops to 1-2 on the season.
