Manchester, N.H. (April 14) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-9 road final to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Larkin Field.
The teams started the game quickly as the Hounds tied things up at 3-3 just 11:53 in on a goal from senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk). Assumption also picked up a man-up score from junior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) as she scored her seventh goal in the last three games. The Penmen answered with a 10-0 scoring run over the next 12 minutes though, making it a 13-3 margin with 5:30 remaining in the first half. Goals from sophomore Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) closed out the first-half scoring however as the game headed into the break at 13-5 in favor of the Penmen.
In the second, the Penmen led by as many as 11 goals at 18-7 before goals from Russo and McNeil capped the scoring and accounted for the 18-9 final score.
For the game, SNHU outshot the Hounds by a 38-23 margin, while Assumption forced 18 Penmen turnovers. The Hounds also converted 11-of-14 clear attempts and picked up 16 ground balls in the game.
Assumption was led by a three-goal, one-assist outing by McNeil to go along with three from Russo and two goals from both Auger and sophomore Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug).
Emily King led the Penmen with a five-goal showing, along with four goals from Casey Duggan and four others with multiple points.
Sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) made nine saves in the loss, while Nicole Kennedy turned aside 10 shots for the win. For the Hounds, junior Sadie Landon (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) played the final 20:24 in net and stopped six Penmen shots.
With the loss, Assumption drops to 8-6 overall and 4-6 in Northeast-10 play, while SNHU improves to 6-6 overall and 4-6 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, April 18th as the Hounds travel to American International for a Noon start.
