Balanced Attack Leads Hounds Past AIC, 19-6

Springfield, Mass. (April 18) -- At Abdow Field on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team raced out to an early double-digit lead, en route to a 19-6 road victory at American International in Northeast-10 Conference play. The win is the ninth for the Hounds in 2015, marking the third straight nine-win season for the first time in program history.

The Hounds got on the board just under two minutes into the first period as senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) tallied her 26th goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead. Assumption surged to the 4-0 lead just six minutes in after two goals in a 24-second span and eventually extended to a 10-0 lead on an Auger goal with 9:13 on the clock. The Hounds led by as much as 14-1 at the 1:55 mark on a goal from junior Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) before Gaby Jones closed the opening period with her second goal of the season and the 14-2 halftime margin.

Senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) scored her 35th goal of the season for the 17-2 lead, along with an 18-3 edge with 20 minutes left after a free-position goal from sophomore Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug). AIC's Cheyenne Carden made it an 18-6 margin with eight minutes left on her 32nd goal of the season before Auger capped the scoring with a man-up score off a pass from Wilkins to account for the 19-6 final.

Sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and junior Sadie Landon (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) combined for 11 saves in the game, with Chirco earning her ninth victory of the season. For the Jackets, Alexis Torosian made seven saves in the defeat.

Auger led the Hounds with five goals and one assist, along with four goals and one assist each by McNeil and Wilkins. Jones and Abigail Cavallo each scored a pair for the Yellow Jackets to pace the offense.

As a team, the Hounds held a 33-25 advantage in shots and a 25-11 edge in ground balls while forcing 18 AIC turnovers. In addition, Assumption was nearly perfect in clear attempts, converting 14-of-15 opportunities.

Assumption improves to 9-6 overall and 5-6 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-11 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, April 22nd as the Hounds host league-leading Le Moyne for a 7 p.m. start at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
