Worcester, Mass. (April 22) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 final to the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins, currently undefeated in the NE-10, at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Wednesday night. Senior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn. / Amity) registered her 200th career goal with the Hounds' first score of the game.
McNeil's goal came near the 11-minute mark in the first half after Le Moyne had jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the first 20 minutes of competition.
Following the spark from McNeil, the Hounds went on to trade goals with the Dolphins, registering two more before the conclusion of the second half. With 7:30 left, senior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) scored her 32nd goal of the season, and with exactly two minutes left, freshman Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) added another for the Hounds' third goal of the day. Both goals were assisted by McNeil to narrow the score to 11-3 Le Moyne at the half.
In the second period, the Dolphins scored four straight over the first ten minutes before sophomore Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) scored for the Hounds, her 25th of the season, making it 15-4.
The Hounds tallied the final two goals of the game within the last two minutes for the first back-to-back Greyhound goals of the day. Cushing found the back of the net with 1:33 left (18-5) before Auger notched her second of the game with just 20 seconds left for the 18-6 final.
Auger and Russo led the Hound offense with two goals apiece while Auger and Russo each posted a team-high three shots on goal.
Sophomore Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) saw 36:49 in net, registering seven saves on 21 shots and takes the loss for the Hounds, falling to 9-7 on the season. Junior Sadie Landon (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) played 23:11 between the posts, making her third appearance in as many games. Landon allowed just four goals while tallying three saves.
The Dolphins outshot Assumption 33-23 and claimed 17-of-29 draw controls. Both teams remained fairly even in several statistical categories however. Both squads registered 19 ground balls and 10 saves, while Le Moyne held a slight edge in successful clears. The dolphins were successful on 7-of-10 while the Hounds cleared 7-of-11. Le Moyne also posted 23 fouls to Assumption's 11.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 9-7 on the season, 5-7 in the NE-10, while Le Moyne improves to 15-1, 11-0 in the league.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action for one last regular-season match-up on Saturday, April 25, as they host Saint Anselm at the Multi-Sport Stadium for a 1 p.m. start.
