THE BASICS:

-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team earned its third win of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep over Dominican College on the road in Orangeburg, N.Y.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) led the Greyhound offense with seven kills, tying two Chargers for the most kills of the match. Reilly also collected a team-high four blocks to register the most in the match.

-Sophomore Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) led Assumption's defense with 13 digs. Thirteen digs also marks the most of any player in the match.

-Sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) tallied 17 assists and one block on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds got out to a quick 2-0 lead in set one with back-to-back kills by Reilly and sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) before a Charger surge changed the lead and put the Hounds down 3-4. The squads tied the score at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8 before the Hounds reclaimed the lead, (12-8) on a service run by senior Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar). The Hounds remained in control and took the last four points in a row to clinch a 25-16 victory in set one.

-In set two, the Hounds got out to a 6-2 lead, capped by a service ace from Reilly, before the Chargers closed the gap, 8-7 and tied it 9-9. A six-point run by Dominican made it 15-11 in favor of the hosts before Assumption came back to tie it 17-17 and power through for the 25-21 win.

-The Hounds came out on fire in set three, rattling off a 3-0 lead and only letting up four points en route to an 11-4 advantage. The Chargers put up two before Assumption went on a four-point run, fueled by kills from Bagwell, Goyette and freshman Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) on a Chrisom service run. Dominican made one last comeback attempt with a four-point run but the Hounds completed the match with a six straight points with Bagwell at the service line. The final streak included kills from Smith and Reilly, as well as a service ace by Bagwell.

UP NEXT: 

-The Hounds are set to open Northeast-10 action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 as they host Southern Connecticut in Laska Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
