-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team dropped a three-set match on the road to NYIT on Friday night. The Hounds return to action on Saturday at Adelphi at 1 p.m.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
-Sophomore Stephanie Hawley (Savannah, Ga. / St. Vincent's Academy) and senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) led the Hound offense with six kills apiece while Reilly also registered two blocks, one solo.
-Defensively, sophomore Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) led Assumption with 19 digs, just one behind NYIT's Becky Syers who led all players with 20.
-Senior Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) also helped the Hound defense with 11 digs on the day.
-Sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) tallied 14 assists following her 52-assist performance in five matches against Southern Connecticut on Tuesday.
-The NYIT offense accumulated 42 kills as a team, compared to 16 for the Hounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Assumption began with the lead in set one on a a service ace from Bagwell. An NYIT attack error put Assumption up 2-0 before a 12-1 run by the Bears put the set out of reach for the Hounds. Assumption ultimately fell 25-13.
-Set two began in a similar fashion with the Hounds earning the first point on a Reilly kill, 1-0 Hounds. The Bears tallied two before Assumption tied it 2-2 on a Hawley kill but NYIT regained momentum and the Hounds would get just six more points before the set's 25-8 conclusion.
-NYIT got out to a 7-1 start in set three but the Hounds rebounded with a four-point run that included two kills from sophomore Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) to make it 7-5 NYIT. The teams traded points and the Hounds cut the deficit to just one, 9-10, but NYIT rattled off a five-point run en route to the eventual 25-13 final. 
 
UP NEXT: 
-The Hounds return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, for the second of back-to-back road games on the weekend. They are set to face conference foe Adelphi at 1 p.m. Assumption will travel to Bentley on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for more NE-10 action before returning home on Saturday, Oct. 3, against Southern New Hampshire at noon.
