-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team split a pair of matches to close the Assumption Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, falling to Bloomfield in the morning (3-0) before claiming a three-set victory over Nyack Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS - MATCH ONE vs. Bloomfield:

-Freshman Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) led the Hounds in their first match of the day with eight kills and a team-high 16 digs. 

-Sophomore Stephanie Hawley (Savannah, Ga. / St. Vincent's Academy) also registered eight kills and added nine digs for a near double-double.

-Sophomore Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) led all players with 30 assists.

-Romanik also went three-for-seven at the net for a .429 hitting percentage.

-Bloomfield's Diannmarie Rivera led all players with 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED - MATCH ONE:

-The Bears claimed the first set 25-20. Hawley led the Hounds with four kills on 12 attempts.

-Assumption fell in the second by a narrow margin of 25-22. Led by Smith who posted five kills.

-Bloomfield clinched the victory with a 25-18 set three, led by six kills from Diannmarie Rivera.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS - MATCH TWO vs. Nyack:

-Senior Tara Reilly (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) led the Hounds with 12 kills, tripling her nearest teammates' tallies of four. Three Hounds notched four kills, Smith, Hawley and sophomore Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy). 

-Romanik added 22 more assists to bring her daily tally to 52. Romanik now posts 801 assists on her career.

-Defensively, Smith led all players with 14 digs.

-Hawley racked up a match-high four services aces. Over the past two days, she accumulated 13 service aces, six of which were in the first game of the season for a new match best. 

HOW IT HAPPENED - MATCH TWO:

-The Hounds claimed set one by a score of 25-17 after pulling ahead 12-6 on a five-point run, four of which came off of Hawley aces. 

-Nyack scored on a Greyhound service error before senior Courtney Bagwell (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) rattled off a six-point service streak to put the set out of reach.

-In set two, the Hounds earned a 25-19 win behind a seven-kill performance by Reilly. With the score 20-17, senior Kelsey Kirkpatrick (Hebron, Conn. / RHAM) served three straight, including two kills by Reilly, to increase the lead to 23-17 en route to the win. 

-Assumption finished off the tournament with a 25-22 victory in set three to clinch the win.

-The Hounds return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8 with a road match at Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
