HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Charles Reid (Westampton, N.J. / Rancocas Valley Regional) took the opening kickoff 98 yards, from his own 1-yard line to the Bentley one, with only a shoestring tackle keeping him from getting to the corner of the endzone. Junior Dylan Oxsen (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) did the rest, going in from one-yard out on the team's first offensive play.
- Assumption started its second drive at its own 17-yard line and marched down to the Falcon two-yard line in 11 plays before Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) lofted a pass to the corner of the endzone for Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn. / East Coast Prep) for the 14-0 advantage with 6:10 left in the quarter.
- A nice punt return by Nolan Seward (May's Landing, N.J. / Cedar Creek) towards the end of the quarter gave the Hounds the ball at the Bentley 46, and it took them just six plays to make it 21-0, with the score coming on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Monks with 1:30 left.
- On the Falcons' next possession, Nick Valenti (Troy, N.Y. / Troy) forced a fumble and Andrew Benson (East Bridgewater, Mass. / East Bridgewater) pounced on it to put Assumption back on offense. Four plays later Oxsen caught a swing pass from from Monks and took it 12 yards down the sideline for a 28-0 advantage.
- Special teams created the next scoring opportunity as a multitude of defenders broke through the line on Bentley's punt attempt and Benson came up with the block on the punt attempt. Stephon Hill (Baltimore, Md. / Boys' Latin School of Maryland) recovered the ball and returned it to the two-yard line.
- Just one play later, Oxsen carried it in from two yards out for his third score of the day for a 35-0 advantage with 9:16 until halftime.
- Bentley did score a touchdown in the final nine minutes of the half, but a fourth-down stop in the final minute by Assumption made it 35-7 at the half.
- Neither team was able to score in the third, with an interception by Bakari Blunt (Mt. Pleasant, S.C. / Burke / Dean College) stopping a Bentley drive in Assumption territory, and a missed 49-yard field goal keeping the Hounds off the board.
- Benson added on to his impressive day early in the fourth quarter, jumping a route from his safety spot and returning the interception 30 yards into the endzone to extend the lead to 42-7 with nine minutes left in regulation.
- The Hound defense did the rest, allowing -1 total yards over Bentley's final three drives to preserve the 35-point victory.
