- The Lead: Although junior forward Mike Sorenti (Sagamore Beach, Mass./ Archbishop Williams(MAHS)) scored two unanswered goals in the third period, the Penmen held on to earn a 5-3 victory over the Hounds to win their first NE-10 conference game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Penmen forward Joseph Berardi put Southern New Hampshire up 2-0 in the first period with back to back goals just 28 seconds apart.
- At 14:08 Joe Collins scored off an assist from Matt McLelland to lead the Penmen to a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
- Hound forward Nick Fenuccio (Keene, N.H./Richmond Generals (MJHL)) scored first for the Hounds at 13:24 in the second with an assist from Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H./ Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) to make the game 3-1.
- Heading into the third, Collins would answer with two goals to complete his hat trick with an unassisted goal and a goal from the slot assisted by Chris Moquin. This would be the last of the Southern New Hampshire scoring
- Junior forward Mike Sorenti (Sagamore Beach, Mass./ Archbishop Williams(MAHS)) scored the next two goals for the Hounds in the third period, one of which was on the power play. Sorenti was assisted by teammates Robert Roche(Holden, Mass./ Tri City Storm(USHL)) and Peter McDonagh(Latrobe, Pa./ Boston Jr. Bruins (USPHL))
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds heldd a 56-48 shot advantage out shooting the Penmen in the second and third period.
- Brian Nazzaro (Braintree, Mass. / Walpole Express (EHL)) made 16 saves in the first period of the loss, while Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass./ Walpole Express (AJHL)) made 27 saves in his relief effort. Penmen goaltender Ryan Slatky made 53 saves in the win.
