The Lead: Forward Tommy Mahoney (Braintree, Mass./Boston Bandits (EHL)) netted a hat trick to lead the Hounds to a dominant 10-2 victory over Framingham State 10-2 on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 2:57 into the first period Peter McDonagh (Latrobe, Pa./ Boston Jr. Bruins (USPHL)) netted a goal with assists from Cam Laughlin (Natick, Mass./ Portland Jr. Pirates (USPHL)) and Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H./Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL)).
- Shortly after at 12:39, Jake Moore (Medford, Mass./Bridgton Academy (Prep)) put the Hounds up 2-0 on an assist from Sam Kelly (Enfield Conn./ Kingswood Oxford (Prep)).
- Framingham State forward Ryan McDonough scored to cut the lead in half and then 3:38 into the second Keith Barnaby tied the game 2-2.
- Just 30 seconds later, Mahoney scored his first goal of the night on assists from Paul Amarone (Hamden, Conn./ Trinity-Pawling (Prep)) and Mac Carnes (Farmington, Conn. Springfield Pics (USPHL Premier)) to make the score 3-2.
- At 13:14, Philippon scored his first collegiate goal on assists by McDonagh and Brian Pickett (Wilmington, Mass/Hebron Acadmey (Prep)).
- Just 2:43 seconds later Laughlin tallied a goal with assists from Philippon and McDonagh to lead the Hounds to a 5-2 lead heading in the third period.
- The Hounds scored five unanswered goals in the third period to ensure the win including two from Mahoney to complete his hat trick. Stephen Picard (Enfield Conn./ Loomis Chaffee (Prep)), Nick Fenuccio (Keene, N.H./ Richmond Generals (MJHL)), and Mike Sorenti (Sagamore Beach, Mass. / Archbishop Williams (MA HS)) added one goal apiece.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Rams outshot the Hounds 15-8 in the first period, but overall Assumption outshot Framingham State 34-33.
- Assumption went 3-for-5 on the powerplay while Framingham State was 0-for-3.
- Hound goaltender Brian Nazzaro (Braintree, Mass./Walpole Express (EHL)) made 31 saves in his win, while Adam Calabrese made four saves in the loss. Ram goaltender Mathew Pearless made 20 saves in his relief effort.
