HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first, the teams started out evenly as a layup from freshman Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va./Christ Chapel Academy) with 13:36 left tied things at 8-8. Another Tuckson three, along with a three from senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota), sparked the Hounds to their largest lead of the game at 19-13 at the midway point of the period. Stonehill used a pair of threes to spark an 11-2 run, capped by a Carter Smith three that put the Skyhawks up 24-21 with 7:14 remaining. Assumption continued to lead at 38-34 with just 1:02 on the clock after another Owens three before the Skyhawks ended the half on a 5-0 run. Following a layup from Adam Bramanti, Smith knocked down a three with five seconds left as the hosts led 39-38 at the half.
- Stonehill started off the second period on a quick 7-0 run that was capped off by a Smith jumper before the Hounds cut the lead down to 46-41 on a three from junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park). The Skyhawks answered with a 9-2 run that included a three from Isaiah Bess to give Stonehill its first double-digit lead at 55-43.
- Assumption's offensive attack put together a 14-3 run to close within one at 58-57 as Tuckson knocked down a jumper to make it a four-point game, followed by another three from Reid. Stonehill put the game out of reach with a 9-0 run over a four-minute span though, including a three from Ryan Logan that made it 67-57. The Hounds cut the lead down to five on three occasions over the final five minutes, but the Skyhawks hit six three throws over the last minute to seal the victory.
