- The Lead: On Wednesday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 home final to visiting Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 play. The Hounds held a 7-4 halftime lead before the Ravens opened the second period on a decisive 10-0 scoring run to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens took an early 3-1 lead over the first 5:12 of the game, capped by a goal from Briana Sweeney that was assisted on by Caitlin Sweeney. Assumption cut the lead to 3-2 and eventually tied the game at 4-4 as freshman Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) tallied three goals over a span of just 8:37. Senior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) gave Assumption its first lead at 5-4 with 3:27 on the clock, followed by two goals from freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) as the Hounds staked to the 7-4 lead at the break.
- In the second, Franklin Pierce tied the game with 22:59 remaining on a free position shot from Lauren Beville. Six different players found the back of the net during the run, including four from Briana Sweeney. The lead stood at 15-8 with 2:53 left after a man-up goal from Jenny Price before Assumption's Brown picked up a pair of scores over the last 2:33 to account for the 15-10 final margin.
- Junior goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) had 14 saves in the loss, while Ravens goalie Denise Hunt made 18 stops to pick up the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Ravens held a 37-32 advantage in shots to go along with a 14-12 edge in draw controls. Assumption owned a 13-11 edge in ground balls and converted 17-of-20 clear attempts while forcing 14 Franklin Pierce turnovers.
- Hart and Brown picked up hat tricks for the Hounds, while Hart also added an assist and Reilly posted a pair of goals.
- Briana Sweeney led the Ravens with six goals and one assist to go along with three goals from Nicole Dale and two from Price.
